Hurricane Isaac affected northern Gulf Coast of the United States, including the western Florida Panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana, as a tropical depression. The ninth tropical cyclone and ninth named storm of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season, Isaac developed from a tropical wave located east of the Lesser Antilles on August 21, strengthening into a tropical storm later that day. Isaac passed over Hispaniola and Cuba as a strong tropical storm, killing at least 29 people, and entered the Gulf of Mexico. (more from wikipedia).

The storm caused anywhere from $700 million to $2 billion in insured onshore losses, disaster modeler AIR Worldwide said. That would still leave Isaac, which came onshore as a Category 1 hurricane, well outside the 10 most costly U.S. hurricanes.
